Pillow talk

I've been organizing my crafty girl things lately, with the goal of making them more "move" friendly. It just felt like there were needles and ribbons and buttons and scrapbook stuff everywhere....so I organized them! While I was organizing things (into cute little, and not so little mason jars I might add) I came across some covered buttons and decided that our old green curtains needed a little pizzazzz. I looked through my fabric box and lo and behold found a ton of greenish fabric remnants that would totally do the trick. Realizing that I had enough to make some new pillows too, my mother-in-law was able to snag me some sweet pillow inserts from her family's upholstery business and voila soon-to-be new matching pillows too....just as soon as I get around to sewing them that is. :)
I'm not exactly sure what the pillows will look like yet. I think I'll just make them up as I go since I don't have a pattern. They're easy anyway. I do however want to make them removable so I'm thinking buttons, zippers, or those cute fold over type things. The green and cream print fabric on the right is what I'm most excited about and is actually from a $3 slip cover I found at ross one day. If it weren't for the seams I wouldn't really know what side was the right side of the fabric....it looks great on both sides. Can't wait to finish them!

Chubby Stage?

(almost disturbing right?)

Great quotes and happenings of the day:

Exhibit A-dosage class, Dr. Rowe, 60+ yr old veteran nurse, Caucasian...
"Everyone clap your hands to my dimensional analysis rap, ready one, two, three! It's a labels game!! Cross out labels top and bottom the same. Use critical thinking a bit, tha's all there is to it!!! Use critical thinking a lot, then you're really HOT!!!"

Exhibit B-going to "visit" Mr. Pickles old owners, who got rid of him because he was just too big and kept stepping on their new baby girl, oh and they didn't have the time for him either. I've always wanted to stop by and tell them that he's still alive, that we really love him, and show them a picture or something of him cuddling with me or emma. So...
"ding-dong, knock, knock, knock......." no answer but to my surprise 3-5 bassets ran to the door and started howling and baying. Pickles old family wasn't home....just the replacements.

Exhibit C-talking to my mom about how I almost don't fit into the bridesmaid dress that I bought 3 weeks ago and about how my weight keeps fluctuating (rather dramatically I might add), maybe because of pcos. Great mom quote to follow....
"well everyone goes through a chubby stage. I had one, do you remember? Maybe you're body is just going through a chubby stage!"

little stinky babies

My cousin-in-law Tyler is raising a whole bunch of these cute little things (Elegant Terns) for his masters degree project. We got to join him (and them) for a feeding today, and to also hold them and give them lots of love. They were so cute and it was so cool to see their different personalities. The picture above is off number 10, 11, and 12...they were just born last night.

Feeding was super interesting, Tyler had to weigh each anchovy to make sure it was enough food for the babies, since they have to be fed a certain percentage of their weight. These pictures are a bit out of order because blogger is just stupid like that (or maybe it's just me) but below you can see Tyler weighing one of the fish and measuring it. The fish are almost the length of the babies so it's super amazing to watch them eat. The fish just stays in their mouth and belly (and sometimes sticks out) and then they conveniently prop themselves up against the corner and go to sleep...I wish I could do that after I eat too!

I think he looks a lot like Thomas!
Here are number 7 and 8 sleeping against the wall.
This is another newborn, born this morning. We could hear some of the other babies chirping inside their eggs.
In the process of hatching...
They love to be held and cuddled! I guess in the wild their mamas pay a lot of attention to them and are always cuddling them. So we took turns holding babies 1-14. They like to go to sleep in your hands or against your chest...it was so cute.

Arizona Trip-Part 1

St Anthony's Monastery

Isn't it beautiful! How amazing that all of this is in the middle
of the desert! Victoria and I stayed with my godparents this past weekend,
out in AZ. We came out for a shower and a small visit to the monastery.
We were able to attend the liturgy, but because it was at night we didn't
get to see much of the grounds. Thankfully my Godfather is an avid
photographer and he made me a cd of everything we missed.
Hope you enjoyed them!
